North Wichita

I woke up to at least six inches of snow. I wasn't quite sure if Wichita would react the way North Carolina reacts (i.e.- OMG OMG WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE.), so I went ahead and took my chances on public transit. After a mile hike through a snowy park/mini golf course, I landed at the correct bus stop; however, I missed the bus by several minutes.

I waited with an Indian man who wanted very badly to help me find my way downtown, as if this city were large enough to be hopelessly lost in. (You know me, I always find a way to get lost). He gave me his map and his phone number though I very kindly declined.

Dear Hemanda,
Thanks for the map and no I'm not single. Also, my name is not Matilda like I told you, but a girl-has-to-do-what-a-girl-has-to-do to stay anonymous in a small town.

Yours truly,
  Matilda

I hypothesized from the very terrifying bus ride that Wichita, in fact does NOT know what to do when snow falls. (They do not salt the roads, yet they plow the side walks.) The #5 bus swayed the entire way downtown hitting the curb multiple times.

I, of course, got off at the wrong stop and had to walk another two miles to my destination: The Donut Whole. I am here now and safe from yet another man who followed me off the bus asking if I had a name. Since he gave me the choice, I told him no--that I was sorry but did not have a name.

I am posting pictures of my very limited life. The only places within walking distance are the library, two bars, a big dollar store, a wig shop, a rent-to-own, and a Taco Tico. I'll never starve, go thirsty, or without a good weave.

Now all I need is my boyfriend to eventually show up, and who knows when that will be. He only talks to me when he feels like it. (And if you can't tell, yes I'm bitter).

You need an alias, an absolutely ridiculous one like Bill.

Yes, that's it. You're Bill. Now say it without laughing and people will actually believe you while thinking "my,God, what an unfortunately name."

Omg, I laughed till I cried Rae, such a gifted writer and I am saying this in my best Brooklyn accent. I miss you more than words can express. It is so quiet and lonely here. No music from you, or veggie platters, or strange, yet wonderful and accurate accents.
